About Myself
My name is Madeleine. I am currently a senior at the Academy for Math, Engineering, and Science. I love hiking, road trips, and making/viewing art. I have a huge interest in archaeology and anthropology. I am fascinated by both ancient and modern culture, and I also enjoy learning about politics (and getting involved when I can).
As a child, my family and I spent lots of weekends camping, and over that time I developed a deep bond with nature. As a result of this bond, I strongly support the National Wildlife Federation, Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance, and I am currently a member of the Sierra Club. I have a huge obsession with plants and my cat Lydia, and I love listening to underground indie bands such as Lydia (the band I named my cat after), Saint Motel, From Indian Lakes, and Naive Thieves. I also have a very vivid imagination and I never stop thinking. **This portfolio was meant to show my growth throughout my years at AMES** |
"What good is living the life you've been given if all you do is stand in one place?"-Lord Huron, Ends of the Earth
I picked this quote partially because the song that I took it from perfectly captures my emotions, and also because I think it is a good quote to live life by. To me, the quote is talking about how your life will never move or never get any better if you don't make any effort to help yourself. I also think that the quote is talking about how staying the same person for your whole life isn't going to get you anywhere. In order to have a fruitful life I feel like it's important to always change and to always try something new, and the quote I picked perfectly expresses that to me.
AMES Memory
When I was nearing the end of my freshman year, a friend and I were walking, and when I looked outside I thought I saw a sheep run by. At first I thought that my eyes had fooled me, but I couldn't resist taking a second look. Sure enough, I saw a group of people standing around a sheep outside. I pointed this out to said friend, Nancy, and she and I eagerly ran outside. We shyly walked up to the girl holding the leash on the sheep, and we asked her why she had a sheep. she replied in the most flat voice I'd ever heard, saying that there was a talent show in one of her classes today and she was really good at pushing over sheep so she stole a sheep and brought it to school so she could push it over for the class.
