Concert Band
Concert Band
Our teacher for Concert Band is Amber Tuckness. In band we play pieces for concerts and prepare for tour, which we will be going on in March. I play mallet percussion, and each day I try to push myself to do the best that I can.
Back in October, the band had a Halloween concert. One of the pieces that we had to play was "Phantom of the Dark Hollow". One of the instruments that was needed to play this piece were the wind chimes, something that I had never learned to play. I had to work hard to try to play them as loud as possible, I practiced the piece at home on the piano, and by the time of the concert I was ready to play. I pushed myself even harder for the Christmas concert, trying to play as loud as I could. The teacher had to remind me to play louder, but I was ready by the next concert.
I went with Cottonwood High School on their music tour, which was a major challenge to overcome. The pieces were advanced (since I had to temporarily join Wind Ensemble in order to go on tour), they had complicated notes and dynamics, and, to my consternation, they were supposed to be performed on the base drum, which I had no experience in playing.
